Elena Relara was born to the family of Zaba and Zuna Relara, two Barabel, inside one of the deep underground caverns they had created on Barab I, the planet of the Barabels, which was orbited by it's sun, Barab. During the daytime, the dark, murky planet was hit by gamma, ultraviolet and infrared rays, making it impossible to stay aboveground unless one would want a quick, painful death. Zaba, Elena's father, would go aboveground in the evenings, when the rays stopped, to go hunt for food. Naturally, the Barabels had adapted to resist radiation poisoning, which meant they could eat anything that was affected by only small amounts of radiation. Zaba was able to tell just how much radiation was in each dead animal or plant, it was rather obvious, in fact, so many others were able to do the same. Zuna would stay underground and nurture Elena, taking care of the child. Zaba the hunter, Zuna the caretaker.
One night, a Galactic Federation shuttle flew down, touching down on the planet carefully inside of a cavern. A pilot stepped out, and noticed a Barabel, Zaba, who appeared to be staring up at a hole. Zaba noticed the pilot, then the shuttle, and blinked rather confusedly. By this time Elena had turned 12, and had learned how to take care of a child, as well as how to use her suprising agility and her claws to help her traverse even the steepest hills of the caverns, and how to use her claws and even some blasters to defend herself. Blasters are a major import for Barab I, and so Zaba and Zuna were able to obtain one. Elena had also been taught Basic, by her parents. She was a Force-sensitive, and her family had learned this after Elena managed to somehow leap at least twelve feet in the air to reach a ledge. No Barabel was able to jump any more than four feet in the air.
Zaba explained to the man, who later introduced himself as Robert E. Jonsson, that his daughter was preforming a strange feat not seen by any Barabel before, after the pilot had walked up to him and asked him what he was looking at. Barabels had large mouths, which made it hard for them to speak Basic, but Zaba was doing his best.
"My name iz Zaba Relara...my child...she iz doing such ztrange thingz...she iz able to leap very big into the air...this one seez much power within..." Zaba was hurriedly explaining to Robert.
"I see, Zaba. Where can I find her?" Robert asked. Zaba led Robert to the scene, where Elena was even using her agility and claws to run up the walls of the cave and wall-leap off, landing carefully on ledges. She was laughing the whole time. She reached twenty meters, before she began wall-running back down. Robert watched this spectacle. "Sir...I believe that she may be a Force-sensitive...that is, one who has the potential to become a Jedi, sir." Zaba's eyes lit up. In their culture, Jedi were highly revered, since they had pulled Barab I out of a civil war long before.
"Jedi! Yez, yez! My little girl, a Jedi..." Zaba's voice trailed off. Robert picked up news about a civil war that was most likely to happen. The two major families of Barab I were preparing to quite literally start a war against each other. The Sabati and the Xuano clans were highly hostile towards one another, and both of them had many strong-and-able warriors, as well as many weapons. If something didn't happen very soon, the Sabati and Xuano would end up engaging in a civil war. Every Barabel knew both sides, and some favored one side, some favored the other. Groups of Barabel would soon join the war and end up dying because of it. Of course, Robert didn't hear the part about the warriors and the weapons, or the fact that many Barabel chose to pick sides and were willing to die, but he would have picked up enough to know of the upcoming war. "...I apologize, sir...I would much appreciate it if you would take my daughter to where you come from...teach her even more...we wish for her safety..."
Robert looked at Zaba. Zuna came out, looking to Zaba, who ran over to tell her about the man, explaining to her what was going on with Elena. Zuna's eyes lit up and she ran over as well. Zuna hurriedly began begging Robert to take Elena, begging him to keep her safe. Robert looked at the two, then to Elena, who walked over to her parents. Zaba walked to Elena, explaining what was going on, why Robert was there. They explained that Robert just wanted to help her, to teach her how to become even stronger. She agreed to go with Robert, and after many shed tears, Elena hugged her parents and departed for the GF temple.
